Now that Christmas is over, a state agency is urging people to check their real Christmas trees and wreaths for a small insect.
The bug is called elongate hemlock scale, and the agriculture and trade department is trying to keep it from spreading.
The insects look like little brown spots, and they’re on the underside of needles.
If there are any, people should burn their trees or wreaths, or put them in the garbage in a separate plastic bag. They can also set them along their curb, if their community collects trees.
