We’ll find out later today how many candidates will be on the ballot for Appleton mayor.
The deadline to file the necessary paperwork to run for the city’s top job is at 5 p.m. So far, seven candidates have turned in their nomination papers.
It’s the first time in 24 years that there’s an open race for mayor.
The candidates are veteran Eric Beach, former Alderman Jim Clemons, city communications coordinator Chad Doran, businessman Dana Johnson, Robin Kettleson, businessman Mark Todd, and Lawrence University administrator Jake Woodford.
Jeremy Scholz and Ethan Stahl took out papers, but haven’t handed them in. It’s possible, but highly unlikely, that people could take out papers today and return the necessary signatures by the deadline.
There will be a primary on February 18th. The top two finishers will meet on April 7th.
Mayor Tim Hanna isn’t running for another term.
