Appleton’s city council will take up a ban on conversion therapy for sexual orientation or gender identity.
The Board of Health unanimously approved a proposal asking the city to notify the state’s licensing agency, if licensed medical or mental health professionals are practicing it on children.
Appleton Mayor Tim Hanna says while the city doesn’t regulate those licenses, local officials can still be leaders on the issue.
The original proposal called a $1,000 fine for each violation. Board of Health members eliminated that because the city doesn’t control the licenses.
