A controversial sculpture by the College Avenue Bridge in Appleton might be moved.
The city’s municipal services committee voted 4-1 today to put it in a different location by the end of March. The city council will have the final say next week.
The Collective is a head, made up of old propane tanks.
Ald. Patti Coenen says they dropped the ball by not notifying the neighborhood. She believes the neighbors deserve a voice, because they have to look at the sculpture every day.
Coenen doesn’t believe moving the sculpture would set a precedent for pieces of art that some like, and some don’t. She says it’s all about the notification.
Ald. Chris Croatt says the neighborhood maybe shouldn’t have had veto power over the sculpture, but people should have had a voice.
