The number of deer killed by hunters in the state last year was down 14 percent.
The DNR says the total of more than 288,000 is about 50,000 fewer than in 2018. The overall figure comes from all of the hunting seasons, including the nine-day gun hunt and archery.
The numbers for the nine-day gun season slipped by nearly 24 percent.
The DNR believes the late start to the season and poor weather for the falloff. Sales of hunting licenses were down about 1-1/2 percent.
