The Oneida Nation is frustrated with a state school board group’s stance on Native American mascots.
By a two-to-one margin, members of the Wisconsin Association of School Boards voted not to urge lawmakers to ban the mascots.
Oneida Nation Vice Chair Brandon Yellow Bird Stevens says people can’t deny the mascots are offensive, hurtful, and damaging to Native Americans. He says schools must support the ban, if they’re going to change the way children see one another as equals.
