Firefighters for two departments in the Green Bay area are getting advanced-level training for police K-9s.
Crews from De Pere and Ashwaubenon learned how to put in IVs, and take other potential life-saving steps.
Officer Landon Gonnering of Ashwaubenon Public Safety says dogs can also get hurt jumping fences or going through glass, and it’s important that they can treat them right away.
The departments are trying to raise money to buy special K-9 kits to put in ambulances.
De Pere is holding a open house with the police department’s dogs on Saturday to collect donations. It’s at Station No. 1 on Lewis Street, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
