Sturgeon spearers will be out on Lake Winnebago on Saturday morning, but the conditions aren’t close to ideal.
DNR Fisheries Biologist Ryan Koenigs believes visibility is around seven to 10 feet. He thinks there could be a slow start to the season, but the ice might get better in the coming days, if temperatures are better.
Koenigs says it’s possible the water clarity could also improve later in the season. He believes it will last for the full 16 days.
Spearers bought more than 12,000 licenses for Lake Winnebago this year.
