The public safety union in Ashwaubenon has “no confidence” in the village’s administrator.
Members took that stance against Allison Swanson, in a unanimous vote.
Melanie Lovato is the secretary of the union, and she says other village workers are afraid to come forward. She believes they have the support of many, if not most, employees from other departments. She says they’re concerned about retaliation, because they don’t have protections, under the state’s collective bargaining law.
The union released a list of what it calls “egregious behaviors” by Swanson. Members also accuse Swanson of disregarding the recommendation of an internal investigation to file charges against a village board member last fall.
Ashwaubenon village leaders are defending themselves, blaming the union for an “enormous” number of factual inaccuracies.
They released a letter, saying the great majority of the decisions the union is criticizing were made collectively, with the village board.
It’s signed by Swanson, the village president, interim chief of public safety, and village attorney.
