Students in the Oshkosh school district will be able to get free GO Transit bus rides for at least two years.
Council members agreed unanimously last night to split the costs with the school district. The city and the district will each pay $30,000 a year.
City Manager Mark Rohloff is concerned about the precedent the city is setting. He says students in Appleton and Green Bay get free rides, but the school district covers all of the costs.
Students will be able to get on any GO Transit route at any time, for free, and not just on their way to and from school.
The council decided to support the cost-sharing setup for two years, instead of three.
