A community in Waushara County is reaching out to support the family of a six-year-old girl.
Kindergartner Maryana Kranz was hit by a pickup truck and killed, while trying to get on her bus on Highway 73, east of Plainfield. A 76-year-old man was driving the pickup truck.
Community member Cindy Johnson says businesses are already putting out jars to collect donations for the family. She expects there will be some fundraisers too.
Sheriff Wally Zuehlke says the bus driver turned the required lights on, and it appears the pickup truck driver went onto the shoulder.
Some people in that area said it was very foggy. It’s unclear why the truck driver was on the shoulder.
Kranz’s four-year-old sister was also hurt, and she was treated at a hospital and released.
