Assembly Republicans want to cut taxes by almost $400 million.
Majority Leader Jim Steineke of Vandenbroek says middle class income taxes could go down by nearly $250 million. He says the cuts would start in the 2020 tax year
Roughly $45 million would go toward cutting property taxes for businesses. The state would reimburse local governments for that lost revenue. Another $100 million would be used to pay down debt.
Steineke joined several local Republican lawmakers to unveil the proposal in Kaukauna this morning.
Governor Evers is proposing to use $250 million of the budget surplus for public schools, to get them back to two-thirds state funding. He also wants to put $130 million toward lowering school property taxes.
