A special assistant to the president at Lawrence University will meet a former longtime city council member in the race for Appleton mayor.
Jake Woodford (29 percent) and Jim Clemons (27 percent) were the top two finishers in a primary with eight candidates. They’ll meet in the April 7th election.
Woodford is from Appleton, and he’s worked in the president’s office at Lawrence. Clemons is also an Appleton native, and he spent about 20 years in separate stints on the city council, until 2013.
Woodford says his vision for Appleton is to be an affordable, safe, and welcoming place for all people.
Clemons believes his experience in city government is making a difference.
City Communications Coordinator Chad Doran finished third at 16 percent. Business owner Dana Johnson was fourth at 14 percent.
Mayor Tim Hanna decided not to run for re-election after 24 years in office. He took office in 1996.
