The Appleton fire department will have a new deputy chief next month, and he’s from the area.
Battalion Chief Ryan Weyers is being promoted. He graduated from Appleton Xavier High School and Fox Valley Technical College.
Weyers says he spent one season in Idaho fighting wildfires, before he was hired in Appleton in 2001.
He’s taking over for retired Deputy Chief Darrel Baker.
Weyers became a battalion chief two years ago, and he oversaw emergency medical services, the hazardous materials team, and training.
