About a decade after there were plans to get rid of tennis courts in some Appleton parks, more could be getting them.
Parks and Recreation Director Dean Gazza says a group called MATCH stepped up to help save the courts. They worked together, and spent about $750,000 since 2011. He says they’re now at the point where they just need to focus on maintaining them.
Gazza says they hope to add courts at several neighborhood parks, including Derks, Hoover, and Vosters.
He says the popularity of pickle ball is also increasing the use of their tennis courts. The city plans to build a six-court pickle ball complex, at an undetermined larger park, in the next few years.
