Brown County Health officials are confident they could handle a local coronavirus case, if it would happen.
De Pere Health Director Debbie Armbruster says departments across the region are coordinating their response plans. She says they’ve worked together with schools and other agencies over the years, when there were other illnesses. She says they just need to specify their response for coronavirus.
Aurora Baycare E.R. Dr. Christopher Painter says people shouldn’t wear a surgical mask, to avoid getting coronavirus. He says health care professionals only use them for a short amount of time, when they’re encountering a high-risk situation.
He adds they have to properly fitted for them.
Painter says most people don’t know how to properly use the masks. If they continually adjust them, they’re putting their hands on their face, and actually increasing their risks.
Despite the recommendation from doctors, there has been a run on surgical masks, and few are still available in stores.
There has been one confirmed case of coronavirus in Wisconsin, and it was in the Madison area. That person recovered, and is out of isolation.
Two labs in the state can now test possible cases.
