A machine to make sandbags is working overtime in Brown County.
Public Works Director Paul Fontecchio says they bought it in August to deal with spring flooding issues.
He thinks it’s a good fit because they have an enormous pile of sand at their asphalt plant.
He says the idea is to make the sandbags and sell them to other communities in the county.
Fontecchio says they made about 1,000 sandbags for De Pere and city leaders placed an order for 1,000 more.
Green Bay ordered 10,000 sandbags and the Village of Howard ordered a couple thousand.
He says they’ve made about 10,000 sandbags so far.
