Coronavirus is leading a federal lawmaker from northeast Wisconsin to push for more transparency for the supply chains for medical products.
Republican Congressman Mike Gallagher of Green Bay is working on a bill that would let the FDA find out where companies get all of the components, for things like hand sanitizer and wipes. He says while the final product might be made here, some ingredients could be from overseas.
Gallagher hopes the bill will lead companies to produce more components in the U.S.
He says coronavirus is showing how dependent the country is on China, and other countries that make supplies.
He’s working on the proposal with Democratic Congressman Mark Pocan of Madison.
