With social distancing protocols in place and several theater chains closing around the globe, NBCUniversal has announced that some of its theatrical releases will be made available at home on-demand for their opening weekends.
Among the films included is DreamWorks Animation’s Trolls World Tour featuring music and voice acting from Ozzy Osbourne, set to release on April 10. Universal’s The Hunt and The Invisible Man, as well as Focus Features’ Emma are also included.
Movies will be made available on a wide variety of on-demand services for a 48-hour rental period at a suggested retail price of $19.99 in the U.S. and the price equivalent in international markets. NBCUniversal will also make movies that are currently in theatrical release available on demand starting as early as Friday.
This follows previous announcements of theatrical release delays for films like MGM’s latest James Bond feature No Time to Die from April to November, as well as delays for Disney’s live-action Mulan, Universal’s latest Fast & Furious entry F9, and Paramount’s A Quiet Place II.
Separately, Disney announced late last week it was shortening the home entertainment window and making Frozen 2 available on Disney+ three months early.
