More people are out of work because of coronavirus shutdowns, and Governor Evers is trying to help them get unemployment checks.
He’s calling on Majority Republicans in the Legislature to drop a one-week waiting period to receive money. He says it’s incredibly important that the funds make it to affected workers quickly.
The governor tried to eliminate the one-week delay through the state budget process. Former Governor Scott Walker and Republicans implemented it in 2011.
Evers is also using an executive order to temporarily drop a requirement that the unemployed take four steps every week, to try to find a job.
Evers wants to help businesses, by making them eligible for low-interest loans to cover lost revenue.
