PLAY BALL! Those words would be so welcomed right now by so many looking for a distraction to what we now know as the world we currently live in. Say what you will about ‘sports’ and their place in society right now, but they are certainly a rallying point for people across all demographics and a way to distract/distance ourselves from the ‘new normal’ we’re still not willing to accept is real.
Taiwan is the first to play ball…kinda’.
The Taiwan Baseball League got their season underway with some slight adjustments.
The Uni-President Lions faced off against The Chinatrust Brothers at Taichung Intercontinental Baseball Stadium yesterday.
No fans were allowed at the 20-thousand seat stadium – instead cardboard cut-outs filled the stands. Covid-19 health concerns limited attendees to a total of 200 players, coaches, umpires, cheerleaders and local media/journalists. Everyone had their temperature checked before entering the stadium. And you thought the bag-check was cumbersome.
The Lions defeated the Brothers 4-1.
