Appleton’s new mayor will be Jake Woodford.
Woodford defeated Jim Clemons in the election, 54 percent to 42 percent. He’ll succeed longtime Mayor Tim Hanna.
Woodford is a special assistant to the president at Lawrence University. He also received the most votes during the February primary, when eight candidates were on the ballot.
Mayor-elect Woodford says he’s going to start with the transition process right away, because there’s not much time. He’ll be sworn in, next Monday.
Woodford says he’s grateful for his supporters, and the voters for their trust. He says the election was filled with twists and turns, because of the coronavirus pandemic, and then the delay in releasing the results.
Clemons was a member of the city council for 20 years, until 2013.
Hanna is the longest-serving mayor in Appleton history. He decided not to run for re-election after 24 years in office. Hanna wasn’t planning to support any candidates, but he did decide to endorse Woodford.
