The Who were scheduled to return to the Cincinnati area tonight for their first concert there since the tragic night of December 3rd, 1979. Before that show began, eleven people were trampled to death and two dozen others were injured while trying to enter the band’s concert at the Riverfront Coliseum.
Tonight’s show at the BB&T Arena at Northern Kentucky University, along with the rest of The Who’s tour, was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But Bill Curbishley, their manager, spoke with WCPO-TV Cincinnati news anchor Tanya O’Rourke and said they will reschedule it, adding that it is the “most important tour date that they have.”
In December, to mark the 40th anniversary, WCPO aired an hour-long documentary about the tragic incident.
The television show “WKRP in Cincinnati” did a special episode which aired in February of 1980, referencing the tragedy.
