A future park on Appleton’s northeast side will be named after a fallen firefighter.
The city council is unanimously agreeing to call the nearly seven-acre site Lundgaard Park.
Driver-Engineer Mitch Lundgaard was killed nearly one year ago, while on a medical call at the downtown transit center.
Parks Director Dean Gazza says they may move up the timeline for developing the park. He expects more immediate interest, and a different type of park than city officials initially anticipated.
Gazza says he’s looking forward to working with the Lundgaard family, and others, to make the park something special.
The park is next to Fire Station No. 6.
