Some local Republican lawmakers are calling for the reopening of businesses.
A number of polls show a majority of people don’t plan to return to restaurants, bars or stores if they would reopen right now.
Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke of Vandenbroek believes people would feel safer if they had more options. He thinks it would be a good idea to broaden the shopping base to more than just larger retailers. Steineke would like to give people a choice to go to smaller stores.
Steineke supports a regional approach to re-opening the state’s economy, starting with areas that don’t have as many confirmed COVID-19 cases.
