Once Sammy Hagar announced that Lockdown Session Seven with The Circle would be a mash-up of a Little Richard and Led Zeppelin song, it had to be Richard’s “Keep a Knockin'” and Zeppelin’s “Rock and Roll.”
The reason? The late John Bonham borrowed Charles Connor’s drum beat/opening, and, Jason Bonham, drummer in The Circle, told us that that pattern is one of the most difficult parts of his late dad’s to play.
And Sammy had problems too: “I had the hardest time with this one because every time I came in singing, I started singing Led Zeppelin ‘Rock ānā Roll’! It took me three damn takes.”
