The head of the federal transportation program is praising airport officials in Appleton and the Green Bay area for qualifying for federal money to help during the pandemic.
Secretary Elaine Chao tells Action 2 News 87 Wisconsin airports will receive about $80 million in grant money from the CARES Act. She says the grants are very competitive and only one in 10 that apply get money.
Appleton International Airport will receive about $15 million and Austin Straubel International Airport will get nearly $8 million. She thinks it’s very important to make sure local transportation systems are up and running as the economy ramps up again.
