The Appleton school district is getting laptops for more students.
District Chief Financial Officer Greg Hartjes says they’re using part of their federal stimulus grant to buy them for students in fourth through sixth grades.
Kids in 4-K through third grade will get one touch-screen laptop per family.
Hartjes says they’re trying to be prepared in case there’s an outbreak in the fall, and they have to close schools for a day, a week, or a month. He says they want to be in a better position to meet the needs of their elementary students.
Teachers had to mail packets of learning materials to those students in the spring.
The district is receiving $1.7 million, but some of that money has to be shared with private schools.
