The percentage of ethnically diverse teachers in the state isn’t keeping up with the growing rate of students.
The Wisconsin Policy Forum found last year, 30 percent of kids in public schools were students of color, but less than six percent of teachers were.
Researcher Anne Chapman says that’s concerning, because studies show when students have a teacher that reflects them, their grades and graduation rates are better.
She says the nonpartisan group will look into the reasons for the gap,
