Green Bay plans to use part of a grant to encourage absentee voting.
The city is receiving almost $1.1 million from the Center for Tech and Civic Life for the August and November elections.
Green Bay’s in-person voting on Election Day in April was plagued by long lines.
Mayor Eric Genrich says that’s why they want to hire people to focus on early voting, by reaching out to people about the mail-in system. They also plan to open new early in-person voting locations on the west and east sides.
Some of the money will go toward recruiting poll workers, and giving them raises.
Four other cities in the state are also getting money.
