The descendants of a Union officer want state leaders to fix a statue that was torn down outside the state Capitol last month.
Colonel Hans Christian Heg fought against slavery, and he was killed in the Civil War.
Violent protesters ripped down the statue. It had been in place since 1926.
Heg’s great-great-grandson, James Heg, says he’s an inspiration to their family, and tearing the statue down was a “gut punch.”
Another great-great-grandsons, Christopher Heg, called it a “dumb thing to do.”
