A three-day training program is helping some police officers and sheriff’s deputies prepare to deal with crowds.
Six departments in northeast Wisconsin sent people to the Brown County Sheriff’s Department for sessions coordinated by FEMA.
The Brown County Sheriff’s Lt. Kevin Pawlak says they’re learning more about how to handle certain situations, and focusing on responding to the crowd’s behavior. He says they focus on de-escalation techniques, and how to intervene, if necessary.
Pawlak says they started planning to hold the special training last year, so they could help with security at the Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee.
