Foo Fighter’s frontman Dave Grohl has taken to social media to pen an open letter titled “In Defense of Our Teachers.” You can listen to Grohl read the letter below.
“So, with me being a high school dropout, you’d imagine the current debate surrounding the reopening of schools wouldn’t register so much a blip on my rock & roll radar, right? Wrong. My mother was a public school teacher.”
According to the Post Crescent, on Monday Wisconsin education officials encouraged local leaders to prepare for another 18 months of the coronavirus threat. A new 87 page document was released by Wisconsin’s Department of Public Instruction with re-opening guidelines which you can read HERE.
Dave Grohl explains a phone conversation with his mother (transcribed by Rolling Stone) where they discussed her concerns in reopening schools:
“Now 82 and retired, she runs down a list of concerns based on her 35 years of experience: Masks and distancing, temperature checks, crowded bussing, crowded hallways, sports, air-conditioning systems, lunchrooms, public restrooms, janitorial staff. Most schools already struggle from a lack of resources. How can they possibly afford the mountain of safety measures that will need to be in place?”
