A federal prosecutor in Milwaukee says federal agents headed to the city will work to solve violent crimes, and not break up protests.
U.S. Attorney Matthew Krueger says they’ll partner with local and state task forces. He insisted the agents will be trained investigators, and not “beat cops.”
Questions have swirled about the agents’ mission, after President Trump sent federal agents to Portland, Oregon for protests in that city.
State Attorney General Josh Kaul is condemning the decision, saying it stokes “chaos and division.” The former federal prosecutor says he’ll take legal action, if federal agents interfere with peaceful protests or try to build arrest statistics without a broader concern for improving public safety.
