The UW System’s Board of Regents is unanimously supporting a proposed two-year state budget.
President Tommy Thompson wants to increase spending by 3-1/2 percent, and create a system-wide program to cover the tuition of lower-income families.
He’s also proposing to borrow $1 billion to deal with losses caused by the pandemic. The tuition freeze would continue as well.
The plan goes to Governor Evers, and it will be part of the state budget debate next year.
