The state justice department is reporting Kenosha police were trying to arrest Jacob Blake before an officer shot the Black man in the back seven times.
Investigators say they were called to an apartment because a woman said her boyfriend wasn’t supposed to be there. They say police used a taser to try to stop Blake, but it didn’t work.
They report Blake walked around his car, opened the driver’s-side door and leaned forward, and then Officer Rusten Sheskey shot him.
The justice department reports Blake later admitted to investigators he had a knife, and investigators found one on the floorboard of his car.
They’re still working on the case, and the Kenosha County district attorney’s office will decide whether to file criminal charges.
