Wisconsin might need to borrow money from the federal government to pay unemployment benefits.
The number of claims, and the amount of time many people have been jobless, are depleting the state’s fund.
Republican Rep. John Nygren of Marinette is the co-chair of the Legislature’s budget committee, and he doesn’t want to increase the amount businesses have to pay into the fund.
Nygren points out the state borrowed money from the federal government for the fund during the Great Recession, and paid that back while the economy recovered.
