A state expert believes it’s likely a Neenah man was legally drunk at the time of a deadly boat crash on Lake Winnebago.
Brian Sullivan is on trial in Winnebago County this week on two counts of homicide by drunk boating. Sisters Lauren and Cassandra Laabs were killed two years ago.
Forensic toxicologist Lorrine Edwards of the state hygiene lab analyzed Sullivan’s blood sample. She says she’s confident her test result is an accurate measurement from when the blood was drawn.
The sample was taken about 3-1/2 hours after the crash. Edwards initially ruled he would’ve had a blood-alcohol level of 0.09.
Sullivan’s wife testified he had an initially unreported drink, closer to the time of the crash. A defense expert believes that would put Sullivan under the legal limit of 0.08.
