Some Red Cross volunteers from northeast Wisconsin are helping victims of the wildfires on the West Coast.
State chapter spokesman Justin Kern says they’re making sure everyone has food and shelter. He says thousands of people have had to quickly leave their homes because of the fast-moving, deadly wildfires.
Kern describes the air as poor, and people notice a charred, bitter smell everywhere they go.
Kern says about a half-dozen volunteers are from northeast Wisconsin, and there are around 25 from the entire state. They’re also helping people get access to health care, including mental health services.
