The ongoing backlog of state unemployment claims is leading to changes.
Department of Workforce Development Secretary Caleb Frostman is stepping down, after Governor Evers asked for his resignation.
Earlier this week, Evers said they have to do better, and they’ll continue to add staff to the point where people are getting what they deserve.
Evers has also pointed out the processing system is outdated, and cases can be complicated, but he says those are just excuses. He says they need to get money to people as soon as possible.
More than 700,000 weekly claims, filed by almost 100,000 people, were still under review at the end of last week. That’s 11 percent of all claims since the start of the pandemic.
Frostman is a former Democratic senator from Sturgeon Bay. He also used to run the Door County Economic Development Corporation.
