Parents in Kaukauna can get free meals for their children, through a school program.
Some districts around the Fox Valley have similar programs, but not all of them offer them to all kids. In Kaukauna, children don’t have to be in school.
Leslie Willems works for the district’s food provider, Chartwells, and she says they’re not serving as many as in the spring. People can stop at the various schools to get breakfast and lunch every day. Not all of the children need to be in the car.
All of the schools have different pickup times. The meals aren’t available at Tanner Elementary.
The federal government is paying for the food, through the end of the year.
The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Fox Valley is also offering free meals to children of all ages at its Appleton and Menasha locations.
