1960’s psychedelic rock band Vanilla Fudge are reissuing their album of Led Zeppelin covers later this year, and have dropped their version of “Immigrant Song” as a teaser.
Drummer/singer Carmine Appice says that shortly after Vanilla Fudge’s Zeppelin-themed album Out Through the In Door originally came out in 2007, the label that released it went out of business, so very few people got to hear it. The band received the opportunity to reissue the record when it signed a deal with Golden Robot Records to put out a new album of Supremes covers called The Supreme Vanilla Fudge. That album has been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but Appice says that the Zeppelin tribute will be re-released in time for Christmas with a new title, Vanilla Zeppelin, and updated packaging.
“[When] Golden Robot Records signed us to do a new record…[our manager] told them about the Zeppelin album,” Carmine points out. “[A]nd they said, ‘Well, we’d like to release that too, as a predecessor.'”
The band’s video for “Immigrant Song” can be seen below. The single is also available via multiple music services here.
