As the East Coast got hammered this week with a ton of snow, it must’ve been very tempting to head out and do some ‘snow donuts’ to celebrate. Let this be a cautionary tale of why you should resist those urges – or be more aware of your surroundings.
A truck doing ‘snow donuts’ in a parking lot after the big East Coast snow misjudged where the parking lot ended and the icy water began.
The truck ended up crashing through very thin ice and was partly underwater, about 40 feet offshore, when rescue units arrived.
The female driver was outside hanging onto the bed of the partially-submerged truck – she escaped by the little window in the cab but the male occupant was too big to fit and was still inside the truck as it began to quickly sink into the icy water.
The fire department positioned one of their tower trucks over the almost submerged truck to assist the woman to safety, but the man was rescued just in time through a back window as the truck sank. Officials say he was under water for about 15 seconds before being pulled to safety by one arm.
The woman was subsequently charged with reckless driving.
