The DNR’s top sturgeon biologist, Ryan Koenigs is scheduled to make an initial appearance in court this morning on a misdemeanor theft charge for his role in a caviar processing scheme.
But Koenigs is getting a lot of support from the sturgeon fishing community. Former Otter Street Fishing Club president, Don Herman, says he’s seen first hand the work and dedication Koenigs has to the Lake Winnebago sturgeon population.
Herman doesn’t believe Koenigs should be charged with something other’s have been doing for decades.
Koenigs is on administrative leave from his job and the Quinney Fishing Club wrote a letter to the DNR asking them not to fire him.
