A Hilbert man accused of taking part in a catfishing scheme is heading to trial. A Calumet County judge finds there is enough evidence to try Ever Cruz-Gonazelz on charges of Kidnapping, Taking Hostages, and False Imprisonment. According to the criminal complaint, Cruz-Gonzales posed as a woman on-line and lured a Columbia County man to the Hilbert area on the premise that they were going to have sex. When the victim arrived, he was allegedly met by men with guns, stabbed, and held hostage at a farmhouse. He will enter a plea on April 5th. Meanwhile, a second man has been charged in the incident. Juan Cruz-Gonzales will make his initial appearance on the same counts April 5th.
