The search is on for two people missing after their canoe capsized on Lake Winnebago last night.
Fond du Lac County officials say a 911 call came in around 8:30 p.m. while the two were still inside the canoe. They were thrown from the boat during the call and the connection was lost shortly after that. Neither person was wearing a life vest.
For five hours, rescuers searched for the two by air, water and land. Sheriff’s officials say wind during the search was gusting to 40 mph and waves were four to five feet making it dangerous. A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter searched well into the early morning hours and other rescue boats and teams will resume the search this morning.
