State Supreme Court rules health departments cannot close private schools

The state Supreme Court rules local health departments do not have the power to shut down private schools. A group of religious schools in Dane County sued after they were barred from holding in-person classes during the pandemic. In a 4-3 vote, the court found that closing the private schools represented an infringement upon constitutional religious rights.
