Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce is urging Governor Evers to sign a law to end enhanced unemployment benefits.
The Governor has said there’s no proof the extra $300 a week is stopping people from looking for work. Nick Novak is a spokesman for the business group. He thinks there’s plenty of proof. He says a survey by Indeed, one of the biggest job search companies in the country, found there was a five percent up tick in job searches in state’s that ended the benefits.
A report from the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco shows one in seven workers would turn down a job because of these benefits. Novak says that’s nearly 14 percent of available workforce.
A bill to repeal the extra $300 dollars is on the Governor’s desk and he’s expected to veto it.
