As long as there’ve been Ford and Chevy people there’s always been the internal and external debate of who’s truck is best?
My dad was a ‘Ford guy‘ and by default, and strict mandate, we were a ‘Ford family‘. He displayed his disgust at Chevy owners at every opportunity he could – reveling every time he saw a Chevy broken down on the side of the road by saying, “Typical Chevy (expletive deleted)!”
So take a ‘Calvin’ window sticker peeing on either logo, add some verbal and occasional physical altercations – which are not uncommon ground here amongst Ford and Chevy owners – and you’ve got yourself a good ol’ rivalry.
You’ve undoubtedly seen (countless times) the rock and boulder truck bed spots, off road stunts, hauling houses, towing airplanes – all the enhanced media spectacle for the public to drink in proving that particular brand’s superiority to the other. But rarely do you get that type of raw, verbal honesty from the television commercials’ spokespeople… well at least the ones they air.
Take a nostalgic look at the video below and you’ll see a Ford commercial from the late 80’s(?). You get some pretty standard Ford vs. Chevy rhetoric. But in an outtake, the spokesperson (an actor named Michael Skewes) throws in some off-script, flowery-language and an added cigarette for enhanced toughness, producing an instant, unaired marketing gem.
Ford people, feel free to share it with your Chevy friends to keep the rivalry going strong.
