As we enter boating season here in Wisconsin otherwise known as EXPLATIVE!!! EXPLATIVE!! EXPLATIVE!! the EXPLATIVE! BRIDGE is Going Up AGAIN!!… Season. Oshkosh we’re looking at you. Too many recent boating accidents on our local waterways have marred what is generally a fun/pleasurable activity.
Boaters have to be remain observant/vigilant/aware. So when confronted by signage the likes of; “Unauthorized Personnel Prohibited,” “Danger Moving Machinery,” and “No Trespassing Violators will be Prosecuted.” A smart person/responsible boater would naturally avoid that particular area.
Unfortunately the people in the video below were not very smart and paid dearly for their ignorance.
The incident took place on the Intercoastal Waterway in Jupiter, Florida where a pontoon boat sought refuge from a rainstorm under the Cato Bridge – they should’ve rode out the rain.
Because instead of going under the bridge in the main channel, the boat passed under the bridge closer to the edge of the Intracoastal Waterway, where there are signs that clearly say “Unauthorized Personnel Prohibited,” “Danger Moving Machinery,” and “No Trespassing Violators will be Prosecuted.”
Those warnings, however, were ignored and the boat was crushed like an aluminum can in a garbage truck – irreparably damaged.
Cue Celine Dion’s ‘Titanic’ song.
Thankfully no one was hurt – dogs included. But this serves as a lesson – warnings are there for a purpose – disregard at your own risk.
